Have you ever wondered about what the Renaissance was, is, or what it changed in history? This is the place to find out. The Renaissance was a period of renewal for people of Europe that lasted from about 1300 AD to about 1600 AD. It began in Northern Italy until it spread all over Europe. The Renaissance brought about many famous artists and architects. It also changed the course of Europe by bringing Europe out of the Middle Ages and into a new age.
The Renaissance brought about many famous artists and paintings. One of the most famous artists is Leonardo DaVinci. He is most famous for his paintings The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa. Another famous artist is Michelangelo. He is most famous for painting the Sistine Chapel for the pope, although this did not occur during the Renaissance. His most famous statue of David, rests in Florence, Italy to this day. Not only did the Renaissance bring about famous artists, it also brought some famous architectural works and architects. One of the most fascinating architectural works comes from Filippo Brunelleshchi. He designed the Duomo, the Dome on a famous church of Italy, also known as the Duomo di Santa Maria. This architectural work is recognized mainly because people of today didn’t understand how he designed it until recently. It was one of the greatest mysteries from the Renaissance. The Renaissance did in fact bring new ideas from many famous architects and artist, but it also brought Europe out of the Middle Ages. During the Middle Ages, people didn’t feel free to express themselves and didn’t have any interest in any worldly issues because they tended to focus on the religious side of things. When the Renaissance began, artists started showing more interest in human potential and less in religious matters, although religion still played a major role in Renaissance artwork. The Renaissance is frequently challenged as to if it ever happened. Many historians believe that the Renaissance was just a normal time period, it wasn’t that life changing, and that people were painting the same way and had the same ideas during the Middle Ages as they did during the Renaissance, they just went unnoticed. We will let you decide whether or not you believe that the Renaissance occurred or not. |
